I am a graduate student studying the effects of benzodiazepine drugs.  Benzodiazepines are also known as the minor tranquilizers.  Valium, Clonapin, Ativan, Xanax etc. are some of the most common.  If you, or someone you know well, have used, or are using these drugs, please fill out the survey that applies.  If you know anyone in either of these categories (user, or know someone who is a user) please encourage them to take the survey as well.  Your participation is voluntary, fully confidential, and greatly appreciated.

For those who are using or have used benzodiazepines, please complete this survey:

For those who know someone who has used or is currently using benzodiazapines, please complete this survey:

Not that often. For both.

How long did it take you to get off?

Lithium ER : 1800mg, 6months

Any Medical Problems? (diabetes etc...)

Nope.

******************************************************************************************
Please share your storys with withdrawing from the medications. You can also include how you felt while on them + unpleasant side effects + any damage they caused you (permanantly.)

Please be *VERY* precise (see above) -- on when you take the medication (day/night), your dosage, and if youre withdrawing of course. Use the format above for a general post so we can get an idea of what your on and how often you take it.
******************************************************************************************

General Info:

*You shouldnt be drinking alcohol while youre on any medication. It increases the effect of the med and can be potentially fatal.

*Withdraw very..slowly. Believe it or not you can die if you dont. *NEVER* go cold turkey.

*NOTE: the longer youve been ON the medication, while getting OFF the medication your body needs TIME to adjust. Give it time. Please withdraw slowly. Very slowly.*

*******************************************************************************************
--DEPENDING ON YOUR DOSAGE, WHAT TYPE OF MED, HOW LONG YOUVE BEEN ON IT, HOW FAST YOU GOT OFF IT--

General Withdrawl Symptoms (discontinuation syndrome):

Main:

Tremors/Muscle Twitching,spasms (Shaking)
Numbness/tingling
Aches/Pains
Severe Mood Swings
Panic Attacks
Suicidal thoughts/behaviors
Depersonalization
Brain Zaps (espically with SSRIS such as Zoloft,Paxil,Prozac etc..)

*******************************************************************************************

Random Info:

According to the FDA (and your doc) there are no "withdrawal symptoms" ***this is BS***. So dont expect anything to be said.

Refrain from driving while withdrawing unless its absolutely neccessary (job etc..)

If on Lithium get your Lithium levels checked twice a month, and diabetes etc...

Keep all paper work.

While withdrawing be aware on ANY changes in your body. Mental and physical.

Go to the ER if neccessary.
*******************************************************************************************

Rules:

Dont down anyone for being on (X) medication. CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. Thats it pretty much.

Cursings allowed etc.. TRY to have good grammar (im sure I made some mistakes in this lol)

For example dont type like this -- "wut r u doin im on da seroqual (spell the medication correctly!) as long as you dont type like youre 10 youre okay.

Discuss.
